Rowathon raises an oarsome amount for MND

A 24 hour row, held in Yealmpton has raised over £4,500 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Over 50 volunteers took it in turn to row shifts of 10 minutes on the concept II rowing machines, kindly loaned by McCauley's at Dinnaton. The 24 hour event started at 11 am on Saturday 13th September in Bakery Square Yealmpton and later moved to the Volunteer Inn.
Organiser, Paddy Trinder said he was “blown away by the level of support and commitment shown by members of the community”.  Paddy and his wife, Tamsin, were devastated to hear that one of their close friends, Del Deanus had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in February 2008 at just 34 years of age.
As well as sponsorship received, there was a superb BBQ, a raffle and an auction of items such as a signed Nicky Barmby Liverpool shirt, a hot air balloon flight and a signed Gloucester rugby ball and photo. The funds are to be split between the Plymouth and District Local Group of the MND Association, the North and East Herts branch and the charity’s central funds.
Del is married to Emma Luscombe, former classmate of Tamsin at Ivybridge Community College. They traveled from Hertfordshire to lend support to the rowers and are pictured here celebrating as the row reached the final stages.
There was a core team of 4 rowers that got little or no sleep during the 24 hour period. They were Paddy Trinder, Matt Trinder, Chris Willis and Gareth Perrin (Landlord of the Volunteer Inn). If anyone would like to make a donation, they can do so online at
